Canagold Resources Ltd. (TSX:CCM, BUY, C$1.85 target, Taylor Combaluzier) has signed an agreement with the Taku River Tlingit First Nation (TRTFN) with respect to the its flagship New Polaris project. The agreement sets the stage for the negotiation of future long-term agreements as New Polaris progresses through its permitting, construction and production phases. It also includes a framework for information-sharing, permitting processes, environmental protection and monitoring, as well as sharing of benefits to support community development initiatives. We note that the TRTFN recently declared a vast portion of its traditional territory off-limits to mining; however, the TRTFN is not opposed to mining and is receptive to mineral resource project development provided it is done correctly. Thus, we are encouraged to see Canagold ink this agreement as it indicates to us that the TRTFN is willing to continue working with Canagold as it advances New Polaris and it ensures the project meets the rigorous environmental and social standards required to eventually put it into production.
